Kudumbashree to Launch High-Tech Healthy Food Products

Alappuzha: In an effort to promote healthier eating habits, Kudumbashree is preparing to introduce a range of high-tech food products that are sugar-free and rich in protein. The products will be launched under the ‘K-Ina’ component of the Kudumbashree Technology Advancement Programme (K‑TAP), which aims to integrate the agricultural livelihood sector with modern technology.

As part of the initiative, training in 30 new technologies has been completed. Last year, Kudumbashree acquired 180 technologies under the K-TAP programme, and products developed using 30 of these technologies had already been launched earlier. Training for another set of 30 technologies has now been successfully completed.

The project is expected to address several challenges faced by Kudumbashree enterprises, including traditional food processing methods, low market value of products, and the lack of food safety standards and certifications.

The healthy food segment will include products such as cake mixes suitable for people with diabetes, foods with a low glycaemic index (low sugar absorption), high-protein snacks, and sugar-free food items.

The value-added agricultural products category will include items made with honey, coconut, moringa, millets, and various types of tubers. Multigrain roti, fruit juices, and ready-to-cook food mixes will also be introduced. In addition, non-food products such as soap and incense sticks will be marketed.

In the first phase, products such as diabetic mix, different beverages, coffee cubes, virgin coconut oil, nutribars, baby powder, and value-added products made from tapioca and plantain had already been launched in the market, officials said.
