New Delhi: Putting an end to swirling speculation, the BCCI has firmly dismissed rumours that Indian cricket icons Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma are set to retire from One Day Internationals anytime soon. While earlier whispers hinted at a possible swansong after the 2027 ODI World Cup, recent reports claimed the duo might bow out as early as October 25, following the third ODI in Sydney — a claim the board has categorically denied.
Insiders reveal that retirement isn’t even on the table for the two stalwarts. Instead, the focus remains on crafting a powerhouse squad for this year’s Asia Cup and next year’s T20 World Cup.
Kohli and Rohit, who signed off from T20 cricket with a World Cup victory and later bid farewell to Test cricket, have been away from competitive action since the IPL. Concerns over their reduced appearances and age had fuelled the retirement buzz, but their ODI spots remain rock solid. Both were pivotal in India’s recent Champions Trophy triumph with their match-winning batting displays.
Fans can expect their much-anticipated comeback in the India–Australia ODI series from October 19 to 25, followed by a home series against South Africa in November. Kohli is already sharpening his skills in the UK, while Rohit is set to resume training shortly — proving that for these champions, the fire is far from out.
