Kochi: Kochi International Airport continued its upward momentum in 2025, registering a 3.7 per cent increase in passenger traffic and securing the eighth position among India’s 20 busiest airports, according to the latest report by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
A total of 11.36 million passengers travelled through the Nedumbassery airport during the year. In the domestic segment, Kochi ranked 11th nationwide, recording a 2.9 per cent growth with 5.91 million domestic travellers. The airport performed even better internationally, ranking fifth in the country, as 5.45 million international passengers passed through its terminals—marking a 4.6 per cent rise over the previous year.
Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram International Airport saw an overall decline of 3.5 per cent in passenger numbers, handling 4.74 million passengers in 2025. The drop, mainly due to reduced domestic travel, pushed the airport down two places to 16th position in the overall rankings. However, its international traffic surged by 8.5 per cent, with 2.52 million passengers, helping it improve to eighth place in the international category.
Calicut International Airport slipped one rank to 20th position overall, despite posting a strong 7.3 per cent growth in total passenger traffic. The airport handled 3.93 million passengers last year and ranked seventh nationally in international travel, with 3.06 million passengers, reflecting a 3.4 per cent increase.
Kannur International Airport also reported robust growth, recording a 13.5 per cent rise in international passenger traffic, with 1.05 million travellers in 2025.
At the national level, Delhi remained India’s busiest airport, followed by Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai, underscoring the steady recovery and expansion of air travel across the country.
