Kerala’s New Liquor Policy Lets Star Hotels Serve Toddy, Relaxes Dry-Day Rules

Thiruvananthapuram: In a bold and tourism-friendly move, the Kerala government has unveiled its 2025–26 liquor policy, bringing sweeping changes that aim to modernize regulations while preserving tradition. Among the standout features is a provision allowing star hotels to serve toddy, Kerala’s iconic local brew, at events like destination weddings, conferences, and business meets.

The policy also eases dry-day restrictions, making event planning smoother and more tourist-friendly across the state. Officials say the toddy served will be sourced from licensed shops and monitored for quality and hygiene, ensuring a safe and authentic experience.

This progressive shift is expected to significantly benefit the tourism sector, drawing more premium events to Kerala, and also giving a boost to the traditional toddy-tapping community by opening new, high-end markets for their product.

Tourism and excise authorities believe the initiative positions Kerala as a more attractive destination for luxury celebrations and international gatherings, blending tradition with modern hospitality. Detailed guidelines on toddy service and hotel licensing are expected soon.
