Thiruvananthapuram – In a determined move to strengthen the fight against substance abuse, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced the launch of the fifth phase of the state’s anti-drug awareness campaign, set to begin on World Anti-Drug Day, June 26. The initiative will continue until January 30, 2026, focusing on long-term awareness and grassroots-level action.
The campaign is part of the ongoing “No to Drugs” mission, which aims to educate youth, empower families, and engage communities to create a drug-free Kerala. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for collective societal involvement, calling on schools, colleges, local bodies, and civil society groups to actively participate in the campaign.
Vijayan said the state would adopt a multi-pronged strategy, combining awareness, prevention, enforcement, and rehabilitation. Special attention will be given to educational institutions, where awareness sessions, counseling programs, and student-led initiatives will be intensified.
The campaign also aims to crack down on drug distribution networks through heightened surveillance and law enforcement measures. In recent years, Kerala has witnessed a growing concern over narcotics use, especially among the youth, prompting the government to take aggressive steps to curb the trend.
“Creating a drug-free society is not just the responsibility of the government, but of every citizen. This campaign is a call to action for all,” the Chief Minister said in his announcement.
The state government is expected to unveil a detailed action plan, including media outreach, public pledges, and coordination with law enforcement agencies, in the days leading up to the campaign’s launch.
