Kerala to Host South India’s First Green Hydrogen Station; CIAL to Launch Hydrogen-Powered Bus

Kochi: In a pioneering move toward sustainable energy, Kerala is set to commission South India’s first green hydrogen station, marking a significant step in the state’s clean energy ambitions. The ₹25-crore project, spearheaded by Cochin International Airport Ltd. (CIAL), will soon become operational, positioning Kerala at the forefront of India’s hydrogen revolution.

Once functional, the green hydrogen station will power a hydrogen-fuelled bus operated by CIAL. The bus will run on cutting-edge hydrogen fuel cells indigenously developed by Pune-based private tech firm KPIT Technologies Ltd., underscoring a major milestone in Make-in-India innovation.

This initiative not only supports India’s national hydrogen mission but also strengthens Kerala’s commitment to renewable energy and carbon neutrality. CIAL, already globally recognized as the world’s first solar-powered airport, is once again setting an example in green transportation and sustainable infrastructure.

The project is expected to pave the way for broader adoption of hydrogen mobility in the region and encourage other public sector enterprises to embrace clean fuel alternatives.
