Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant setback for expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, the Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court on Saturday refused to grant him protection from arrest in the second sexual-assault case registered against him.
The ruling came just hours after the Kerala High Court granted him protection from arrest in the first case, involving allegations of rape and forceful miscarriage filed on November 28 — creating a dramatically split legal outcome for the embattled legislator.
In the second case, filed by a Bengaluru-based woman, Rahul had pleaded for interim protection, arguing that the complaint lacked clarity regarding the time, place, and nature of the alleged incident and was politically motivated.
However, the Sessions Court rejected these arguments and declined to offer any interim shield, asking him instead to wait for a full hearing on his anticipatory bail plea, expected early next week.
The contrasting court decisions have intensified the legal turmoil surrounding Rahul Mamkootathil, who is already under mounting pressure as multiple investigations gather pace.
