Kerala Sees Relief from Heavy Rains; Weather Alerts Now Limited to Four Districts

Thiruvananthapuram:- After a prolonged spell of heavy rain across Kerala, weather conditions have eased significantly. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reduced rainfall alerts to just four northern districts: Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, and Kozhikode, which remain under a yellow alert.

Moderate rainfall accompanied by winds up to 40 km/h is likely in isolated parts of Thrissur and Malappuram. Light rain is also expected in scattered areas of Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

The current weather is influenced by a trough stretching from the Gujarat coast to northern Kerala, and a strengthened low-pressure system over northwestern Madhya Pradesh. These conditions could trigger isolated heavy rain in Kerala, along with strong winds reaching 50–60 km/h in some areas. From July 28 to 30, wind speeds may vary between 40 and 50 km/h. However, the low-pressure area over Madhya Pradesh is expected to weaken within 12 hours.

In light of weather-related damages, schools operating as relief camps in Kottayam have been granted a holiday. The Alappuzha district administration has declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, anganwadis, and tuition centres in Kuttanad taluk. Scheduled examinations will continue as planned.
