Kerala Records Another Case of Rare Amoebic Brain Infection; 11-Year-Old Girl Hospitalized

Kerala has confirmed yet another case of amoebic meningoencephalitis, a rare and often fatal brain infection. An 11-year-old girl from Chelari, Malappuram, has been diagnosed with the disease and is receiving treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

The girl, admitted with high fever, tested positive for the infection after samples were examined at the hospital’s microbiology lab. Health officials have launched an investigation to trace the source of the infection.

Currently, two patients are undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College—including a three-month-old infant in critical condition. In addition, a 49-year-old man showing similar symptoms has also been admitted for observation and care.
