Kerala Power Bills to Rise: KSEB Imposes 10-Paise Surcharge in September

Thiruvananthapuram: Electricity consumers in Kerala will face higher bills in September as the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) introduces a 10-paise surcharge per unit. The hike is aimed at offsetting the additional ₹26.28 crore expenditure caused by soaring fuel costs for power generation in July.

In comparison, August saw lower surcharges — 9 paise per unit for monthly bill-payers and 8 paise for those billed once in two months.

Though KSEB maintained that the actual surcharge should have been 12.54 paise, the State Electricity Regulatory Commission has limited the levy to 10 paise per unit.
