Kerala Nativity Card Bill Tabled in Assembly; Minister K. Rajan Hails It as a Historic Step

Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant legislative move, the Kerala Nativity Card Bill was introduced in the State Assembly by Minister K Rajan, who termed it a “historic law” that will allow individuals to proudly affirm their identity as Keralites. The Bill, which has already received Cabinet approval, has now been referred to the Subject Committee for detailed scrutiny. Brought amid concerns surrounding proposed citizenship amendments and voter list revisions at the national level, the legislation seeks to provide an officially recognized document certifying Kerala nativity. The proposed Nativity Card, modeled on the existing nativity certificate, will serve as an authenticated record for accessing various state services and social benefits. Eligibility is restricted to those born in Kerala or those with ancestral roots in the state who have not acquired foreign citizenship, with provisions rendering the card invalid if foreign citizenship is later obtained. Issued by the Tahsildar and recorded at the Village Office, the card is expected to become a key administrative document, reinforcing identity recognition and streamlining service delivery across the state.
