Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s southwest monsoon is on its last lap and could weaken noticeably after Navaratri, paving the way for the northeast monsoon (Thulavarsham), according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The seasonal retreat has already begun in parts of northwestern India like Rajasthan.
Adding to the weather activity, a strong low-pressure system over Gujarat and the Khambhat Gulf is expected to intensify into a deep depression by Wednesday and move into the Arabian Sea before drifting towards Oman. Meanwhile, a weakening cyclone over the South China Sea is likely to enter the Andaman Sea tomorrow and may form a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal by midweek.
Despite these developments, forecasters assure that Kerala will not face any major impact. The state may see light to moderate showers in northern districts, while other regions can expect intermittent spells of rain and sunshine as the monsoon gradually fades.
