Kerala MLA PV Anvar Resigns After Joining TMC, Sparks Political Shifts in Nilambur

In a surprising political move, Independent MLA PV Anvar from Nilambur, Kerala, has resigned from his legislative position just days after aligning himself with the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Anvar, who won the Nilambur seat in both the 2016 and 2021 Assembly elections as an independent supported by the Left Democratic Front (LDF), submitted his resignation letter to Kerala Legislative Assembly Speaker AN Shamseer on January 13, 2025.

In his resignation letter, Anvar confirmed that he would not be contesting the upcoming by-election in Nilambur. Instead, he pledged his support to the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), recommending that the UDF nominate VS Joy, who he believes is well-acquainted with the constituency’s issues.

Anvar’s decision to join the TMC and subsequently step down as MLA has ignited speculation about his future political intentions and its impact on Nilambur’s electoral landscape. His endorsement of the UDF in the by-election signals a shift in alliances, indicating his strategic pivot towards the opposition in Kerala’s evolving political scenario.

The resignation marks a key turning point, with both the ruling LDF and opposition UDF closely watching the unfolding developments in Nilambur, making this a significant chapter in Kerala’s dynamic political scene.
