Kerala High Court Slams Grama Panchayat for Prolonging Litigation Over ₹50,000 Dispute

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has strongly criticised a Grama Panchayat for unnecessarily prolonging a legal dispute involving just ₹50,000. The court observed that repeated litigation in such a minor financial matter was unjustified, particularly since the legal expenses were being covered using public funds.

The bench expressed displeasure over the misuse of taxpayer money for avoidable legal battles and stressed that local bodies should act responsibly in financial matters. The court further remarked that such actions burden the judiciary and waste valuable judicial time.

This ruling serves as a reminder to local self-governments to handle financial disputes prudently instead of engaging in unnecessary litigation at the public’s expense.
