Thiruvananthapuram: As a mark of respect for the late Pope Francis, the Kerala government has suspended all cultural programs linked to its annual celebrations in Wayanad and Kasaragod. Thursday’s events in Wayanad and Friday’s lineup in Kasaragod have been officially postponed. Authorities also confirmed that the inauguration of an exhibition in Wayanad, scheduled for today, will not take place.
The Indian government has announced a three-day national mourning period, covering today, tomorrow, and the day of the Pope’s funeral. During this time, the national flag will fly at half-mast, and all official festivities have been put on hold.
Kerala’s district collectors and government officials have been directed to adhere strictly to the mourning protocols, ensuring all celebratory and entertainment events are suspended out of respect.
Pope Francis passed away at 11:05 AM IST on Monday after a prolonged 38-day battle with pneumonia. He had returned to his residence on March 23 after receiving treatment.
