The Kerala government has approved the disbursement of ₹13.47 crore in pension arrears to members of erstwhile royal families. The arrears, pending for the period from January 1, 2011, to October 29, 2017, will be released in six equal installments, with the final payment scheduled for February 2026.
This decision underscores the state’s resolve to settle longstanding financial dues and uphold symbolic traditions tied to Kerala’s princely heritage. The phased payment approach is also aimed at easing fiscal pressure and aligning with ongoing efforts to streamline pension disbursements across various categories, including welfare and service pensions.
The move is seen as a respectful gesture towards former royals, reinforcing Kerala’s commitment to preserving its legacy while maintaining financial accountability.
