Kerala Extends DGP Ravada Chandrasekhar’s Tenure by One Year

Thiruvananthapuram: In a move aimed at ensuring continuity in police leadership, the State Cabinet has approved a one-year extension for Kerala Director General of Police Ravada Chandrasekhar. The decision comes in line with the Supreme Court’s directives in the landmark Prakash Singh case, which mandates fixed tenure norms as part of broader police reforms.

Originally set to retire on June 30, 2026, the 1991-batch IPS officer of the Kerala cadre will now continue in office until June 30, 2027. A native of West Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, Ravada Chandrasekhar has been serving as the state’s top cop, and the extension is expected to provide administrative stability and sustained leadership within the Kerala Police.
