Kerala Cadaver Dogs Join Telangana Tunnel Rescue Mission Amid Growing Urgency

In a determined bid to locate eight workers trapped inside the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Telangana, the Kerala Police have dispatched two highly trained cadaver dogs and their handlers. This deployment follows a request from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority.

The tragic tunnel collapse occurred on February 22, 2025, leaving workers stranded approximately 13.5 kilometers deep inside. Despite extensive rescue efforts involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Army, and Navy, there has been no contact with the missing individuals.

Authorities are now employing advanced search technologies, including endoscopic and robotic cameras, to aid in the search. The addition of Kerala’s cadaver dogs is expected to significantly boost the operation’s effectiveness.

The Kerala Chief Minister’s Office has reaffirmed the state’s full commitment to supporting the mission, as efforts intensify to reach the trapped workers. With the operation now in its 13th day, rescue teams remain hopeful for a breakthrough, despite the complex and challenging conditions inside the collapsed tunnel.
