Thiruvananthapuram: As intense monsoon showers continue to lash Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a red alert in five districts—Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad—warning of extremely heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds reaching up to 60 kmph in isolated areas.
Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for the next three hours in nine other districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. These regions are expected to witness moderate rain accompanied by thunder and strong winds.
Authorities have urged residents to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow all safety instructions as Kerala prepares for another spell of severe weather.
