Kerala Braces for More Downpour: Yellow Alert in 12 Districts as Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Loom

Kerala remains under the grip of relentless rain, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert across 12 districts as wet weather shows no sign of easing. The warning covers Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.

The IMD has predicted that heavy rain will persist until Friday, accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h. A new low-pressure system forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify the monsoon activity, potentially extending the wet spell until October 24.

Authorities have urged residents to remain on high alert, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in several parts of the state. Fishermen are also advised to stay ashore due to rough sea conditions.

As per IMD standards, “heavy rainfall” refers to 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain within 24 hours—a scenario likely to play out in isolated areas of the state over the coming days.
