Heavy rains are set to lash Kerala from today, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue yellow alerts in multiple districts through Tuesday. Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur are under alert on Saturday, followed by warnings for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and more on Sunday. Alerts extend to northern districts like Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod early next week. Fishing has been banned along the Kerala-Karnataka coast on Monday and Tuesday due to turbulent sea conditions. Meanwhile, the National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a coastal alert for sea intrusion caused by “Kallakkadal” (swell waves), expected to impact coastal stretches of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Alappuzha from Sunday evening to Monday night, with waves rising up to 1.8 meters. Coastal residents are urged to stay vigilant.
