Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to witness intense rainfall over the next few days as twin low-pressure systems brew along the west coast and eastern India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Kannur and Kasaragod, warning of heavy downpours and strong winds.
A trough stretching from Maharashtra to Goa, along with another system over the southwestern Gangetic plains near West Bengal, is driving the weather shift. A third low-pressure trough extends from southern Gujarat to the Karnataka coast. These systems are collectively enhancing rainfall activity over the state.
The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall up to 115.5 mm in 24 hours until July 11, along with gusty winds reaching 40–50 km/h in some areas.
While fishing remains unrestricted off the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts, the Karnataka coast will see a fishing ban until July 11 due to rough seas.
Authorities urge residents to stay alert and follow official updates as the monsoon intensifies.
