Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to face intense rain and thunderstorms through Tuesday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue Yellow Alerts across several districts. The spell of unstable weather is expected to bring strong showers to isolated regions starting tomorrow.
Idukki is likely to receive heavy rainfall on Sunday, while Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki have been placed under alert for Monday as well. On Tuesday, Kottayam and Idukki may again face heavy downpours. According to the IMD, rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours qualifies as “heavy rain.”
Adding to the concerns, the ‘Kallakkadal’ or swell-wave phenomenon is expected to trigger 0.2 to 0.7-meter-high waves along the coasts of Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Kannur from 2:30 AM to 11:30 PM today (15/11/2025), the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has warned.
Fishermen and coastal residents have been urged to remain on high alert as the rough sea may lead to sea intrusion and coastal flooding.
