Kerala Braces for Heavy Rain as IMD Issues Yellow Alert in Four Districts Amid Scorching Heat

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for June 10 in four districts of Kerala—Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Ernakulam—forecasting isolated heavy rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

However, despite the rain warnings, the state continues to reel under unusually high temperatures, with many regions recording maximum temperatures 3.1°C to 5.0°C above average on Thursday. The soaring mercury levels, combined with persistent humidity, have made conditions increasingly uncomfortable for residents.

The IMD also forecasts light to moderate rain across Kerala and Mahe over the next seven days, offering a glimmer of relief from the ongoing heatwave. Still, authorities urge the public to stay alert and follow weather advisories, as the dual threat of heavy rain and oppressive heat continues to loom over the state.
