Kerala Braces for Four Days of Rain as Cyclone & Low-Pressure System Intensify; Thunderstorms Likely

Kerala is set to witness another spell of wet weather, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting four more days of rain triggered by an active low-pressure system and a distant cyclone. The IMD has also cautioned that isolated thunderstorms may occur across the state, urging the public to stay alert.

A strong low-pressure system currently positioned over the southwest Bay of Bengal, southeast Sri Lanka and adjoining Indian Ocean is expected to move north–northwest and intensify into a deep depression within hours. The system may strengthen further over the next 48 hours, tracking towards the northern Tamil Nadu–Puducherry coast, the IMD stated.

At the same time, Cyclone Senyar, which developed over Malaysia and the Malacca Strait, is now hovering near the northeast Indonesian coast. Though currently moving west–southwest, it is likely to lose strength gradually and shift eastward soon.

With both weather systems influencing the sea conditions, the IMD has banned fishing along the Kerala–Lakshadweep coast until Sunday due to rough seas and strong winds.
