Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to experience extremely heavy rainfall today, with Red Alerts issued for the northern districts of Kannur and Kasaragod. Orange Alerts are in place for Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad, where heavy to very heavy rain is expected.
Central Kerala is likely to see moderate rainfall, and Yellow Alerts have been issued for Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad.
The rainfall is intensified by a cyclonic circulation between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, along with additional systems over southern Kerala and the Bay of Bengal, near the Tamil Nadu coast. Wind speeds may reach up to 60 km/h, prompting warnings for residents in hilly and coastal regions. Due to the risk of high waves and sea surges, fishing has been banned along the Kerala coast until August 7.
