Kochi, July 14 (IVC) The Almaya Munnettam (Laymen’ upsurge) of the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese strongly protested against the appointment of an outsider (outside the archdiocese) as the vice-chancellor of the curia of the Archdiocese.
The unilateral appointment of a priest outside the archdiocese as vice-chancellor was not acceptable, the Spokesman for the Almaya Munnettam , Riju Kanjjukkarn said in a statement here on July 12.
Almaya Munnettam is a group of faithful laymen of the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese opposed to the synod’s diktat of introducing the Unified Mass. “We will not allow any incursion into the archdiocesan curia” , Kanjukkaran said.
The practice followed in the archdiocese was to appoint a senior priest from the archdiocese for the covetous post of vice-chancellor.
He said there were 468 priests in the archdiocese and that appointing a priest from outside as vice-chancellor was not appropriate. The group demanded that the person who had been appointedbe immediately relieved of his post. It also issued a thrat that if apostolic administrator, Mar Bosco Puthur was not ready to relieve the newly appointed vice-chancellor, he would not be allowed to participate in any programme in the archdiocese.
The group also alleged that the appointment of vice-chancellor was to sabotage an agreement on the Mass issue in force in the archdiocese, the statement added.
