Kerala BJP Leader PC George Granted Bail in Hate Speech Case

Kochi: BJP leader PC George has been granted bail in a hate speech case by a district court, days after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Kerala High Court.

The case was registered against George following his alleged communal remarks during a television debate on January 5. The complaint was filed by the Youth League Erattupetta Mandalam Committee, leading to police action against him.

Earlier, both the Kottayam District Sessions Court and the Kerala High Court had denied him anticipatory bail, prompting the police to issue a notice for his appearance. Eventually, George surrendered before the court.

While in judicial custody, he was undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College Hospital. Considering health reasons and other factors, the court decided to grant him bail before the completion of his 14-day remand period.
