The Kerala government has given the green light to the ambitious Wayanad ropeway project, designed to dramatically improve connectivity between Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. The 3.9-kilometer aerial route will link Adivaram to Lakkidi, reducing the current 45-minute drive through the winding Thamarassery Ghat to a smooth 15–18-minute ride.
Equipped with 40 air-conditioned cable cars, each carrying 6 to 8 passengers, the ropeway will accommodate up to 400 travelers at once. It will be supported by 30 to 40 towers along the route and will also include a dedicated ambulance cable car for emergency medical transport—ensuring quicker healthcare access for hill residents.
With an estimated investment of ₹200 crore, the project will be executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and overseen by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC). Besides the ropeway itself, the plan includes state-of-the-art terminals with star hotels, recreational parks, cafeterias, amphitheaters, and auditoriums, turning the area into a full-fledged tourism hub.
This development is expected to significantly boost regional tourism and infrastructure, aligning with Kerala’s broader vision of modern, sustainable transport and enhanced visitor experiences.
