Kerala Accelerates Green Mission: CM Pinarayi Vijayan Inaugurates CBG Plant at Brahmapuram

Kochi: In a significant boost to Kerala’s clean energy and waste management initiatives, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated a state-of-the-art Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant at Brahmapuram, reinforcing the government’s commitment to sustainable development.

The new facility converts organic waste into compressed biogas, transforming municipal waste into a valuable source of renewable energy. The initiative aims to drastically reduce landfill dependency while promoting environmentally responsible waste treatment practices.

As part of a larger statewide expansion plan, agreements have been signed with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to establish similar CBG-based waste treatment plants in Kozhikode and Kollam. Meanwhile, projects are being rolled out under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in Palakkad and Thrissur.

Another key project is being developed in Changanassery under the Kerala Solid Waste Management Project, further strengthening the state’s integrated waste management framework.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted that waste must be treated as a resource, not a burden, and emphasized Kerala’s vision of building a circular economy powered by innovation and sustainability.

The Brahmapuram CBG plant is expected to serve as a model for eco-friendly urban waste solutions, positioning Kerala at the forefront of green energy transformation in India.
