Kashmir Closes 48 Tourist Spots Amid Terror Threat Alerts Following Pahalgam Attack

Srinagar: In a heightened security move, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have shut down 48 popular tourist destinations following intelligence inputs suggesting possible terror strikes in the region. The precaution comes after reports that militants are plotting retaliatory attacks in response to the recent demolition of their safehouses, which followed last week’s deadly terrorist assault in Pahalgam.

According to security officials, the fresh intel indicates that terrorists are planning targeted killings as well as a large-scale attack aimed at disrupting peace and tourism in the Valley. The closure of tourist hotspots is part of a broader security strategy to prevent civilian casualties and ensure public safety.

Security forces have intensified surveillance and deployed additional personnel across sensitive areas, particularly around Pahalgam and other high-traffic zones. Checkpoints have been tightened, and local police have been put on high alert.

Officials emphasized that the closures are temporary and will remain in place until the threat level subsides. Tourists have been advised to stay away from restricted areas and follow government advisories for their safety.

The move comes at a time when Kashmir was witnessing a steady increase in tourism, making the threat of attacks even more concerning.
