Kamala  Harris  is  ahead of her rival in the American presidential election opinion polls

By Our  Foreign  Correspondent

Washington,  Aug  27  (IVC)     In the  opinion polls of the US presidential election race, the democratic party candidate and Vice President  Kamala  Harris  went ahead of her rival Donald Trump.

Before  the withdrawal of the President Joe Biden  from the electoral fray on July 21,  Donald Trump, Republican party nominee, was ahead of  Ms Kamala Harris.

The  drop of Biden from the race was a booster  to Kamala Harris .  Besides, the selection of Minnesota  Governor, Tim Walz  as the Vice President  nominee of the Democratic Party  has paved the way of Harris easy to  reach  White House after November 5 election.

Moreover, Trump’s  personal attack  on the Democratic presidential candidate   Harris  as described by the      Republican party leaders themselves  as  cheap and below  the  dignity of  an American presidential candidate, either  Republican or Democratic.

Even the candid laugh of Harris  found her rival Trump  for  worth  criticism.  Of  the  many things that  Kamala Harris  is  accused of, having the ‘laugh of  a  crazy person’ must be  the  most  interesting.  The  ‘critique’ sheds  more light on the  critic –Donald Trump- than on the person being criticized. The  Republican party candidate Trump  repeated the jibe  on August 17  at his campaign rally  in Pennsylvania.  On Trumps remark , even  the Republican party leaders  wondered about what  is Harris’  style  of laugh to do with American presidential election.

Trump   in his campaign rally  maintained  that he was “better looking” than Kamala Harris  which triggered another  cascade of memes and jokes, according to media reports here.  Even Trump’s   political  allies  held that  he was  shooting up  his  own campaign to  an extent  he  could  lose the election.

Senator  Lindsey Graham  among others  sounding the  alarm ,rushing to TV  talk shows  to warn that Trump the “showman and provocateur” is not  going  to win unless he  focused on policy issues, say the  media  reports.

But  the  precise  policy prescriptions have  been at  a  premium  in Trump rallies  as he  continues  to denigrate his opponent  in crude personal  attacks, disparage  allies, praise  dictators and demonize immigrants, all  while painting a dark, dystopian future  for America unless Trump is elected.

At  Saturday’s (17-8-2024) rally , Harris’  looks  and  race were  again triggered  for Trump’s piques  as  he babbled  about  a Time magazine cover featuring her, saying they had  made her  (Harris’) look  like  Sophia Loren  and Elizabeth Taylor by  using a sketch instead of a  photograph.

Apart  from  personal barbs,  Trump  attacks  on Harris   now includes  describing her  as a “socialist lunatic” who  as  a “border  czar” is deliberately  letting in illegal  immigrants  to destroy America.  Not  enough of  it  “ who the  hell is Harris” asked Trump.

The  people  of  America  did not  like personal  denigration of Harris by Trump.  The  want  their  presidential  candidates’ speeches would be  based   on the    policy  issues  and     not  on cheap publicity  gimmicks.   Personal denigration rival  was  considered    as  standard  practice  even in electioneering.

Trump’s  utterances turned out to be  a  blessing in disguise  for Harris.   As a result  not only  in opinion polls  the rating of Harris went up and now Harris is ahead of  Trump , the  flow  of  funds to the Democratic party’s  campaign also continuous well.   The  democratic party campaign has raised   $540 million  as on Aug 25.   Tis just over a month since President Joe Biden   dropped  out of the White  House race on July 21.

Kama Harris’ US presidential campaign  has raised  more than half a billion US dollars in just over a month “a record  for  any campaign in history”. One third of those  donations  were   from first-time  contributors, Campaign Chair , Jen O’Malley  Dillon said in a memo.
