Iran Steps In to Mediate Nimisha Priya Case, Offers Diplomatic Support

New Delhi: In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, Iran has extended its support to mediate in the case of Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse facing a death sentence in Yemen. The Iranian authorities have offered to utilize their diplomatic influence to facilitate meaningful discussions and negotiations aimed at securing a resolution.

Nimisha Priya, sentenced in 2020 for the murder of a Yemeni national, remains the focus of extensive legal and humanitarian appeals by the Indian government and human rights organizations. Efforts have been ongoing to secure clemency or a negotiated settlement under Yemen’s Diyya (blood money) law.

Given Iran’s strategic presence and diplomatic ties in Yemen, its intervention is viewed as a crucial step towards building a bridge for dialogue between Indian representatives and Yemeni authorities.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has welcomed Iran’s offer and reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to securing Nimisha Priya’s safe return. Further diplomatic engagements are expected in the coming weeks, with hopes of a positive resolution to this sensitive case.
