India’s Coal Production Sees 6% Increase in First Five Months of FY 2025

New Delhi : India’s coal production witnessed a significant rise of 6.48% in the first five months of the current financial year, reaching 384.08 million tonnes (MT). This marks an increase from 360.71 MT produced during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

Coal India Limited (CIL), which contributes over 80% of the country’s coal output, reported a production of 290.39 MT during April-August 2025, reflecting a 3.17% year-on-year growth. Meanwhile, coal production from captive mines and other entities surged to 68.99 MT, compared to 52.84 MT in the same period last year.

These provisional figures highlight the growing domestic coal production as India continues to ramp up its energy resources to meet rising demand.
