New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence has dismissed media reports claiming that India has halted weapons procurement from the United States amid an ongoing tariff dispute. Clarifying the matter, the ministry stated that such reports suggesting India has frozen arms deals are baseless.
According to the statement, all processes related to the planned procurement of weapons from the US are progressing as scheduled. The clarification comes after some international media outlets reported on Friday that India had suspended arms deals in response to the US increasing tariffs on Indian exports to 25%. Reuters had also reported that the cancellation of the Defence Minister’s planned visit to the US signalled a hardening of India’s stance.
However, officials confirmed that under the India–US defence agreements, the delivery of certain weapons is moving forward. These include Stryker compact vehicles, Javelin anti-tank missiles, and six aircraft for the Indian Air Force, all of which are in the process of being procured.
