India Set to Host 2030 Commonwealth Games; Ahmedabad Chosen as Centenary Venue

India is all set to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, marking the second time the country will welcome this prestigious international sporting extravaganza. The Commonwealth Sports Executive Board has recommended India as the host nation, with the final approval expected at the Commonwealth Sports General Assembly in Glasgow.

Following a thorough evaluation by the Commonwealth Sports Evaluation Committee, Ahmedabad has been proposed as the host city for the centenary edition of the Games, celebrating 100 years since the inaugural Commonwealth Games in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930.

Dr. Donald Rukare, Acting President of Commonwealth Sport, lauded India and Nigeria for their “vision and commitment” in presenting strong hosting proposals.

PT Usha, President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), said hosting the Centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad would be a “matter of immense pride” for India. “This will not only showcase India’s world-class sporting infrastructure and event management capabilities, but also play a meaningful role in our national journey toward a Viksit Bharat by 2047,” PT Usha added.

India previously hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2010 in New Delhi, which marked a milestone in the country’s sporting history.

In parallel, India is actively pursuing its bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, having submitted a letter of intent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated India’s strong aspiration to host the Olympics, further cementing the country’s growing global sporting ambitions.
