Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police are set to close the final 14 cases registered on the basis of the Hema Committee report, following a lack of interest from key witnesses to pursue legal action. The committee, formed to investigate issues within the Malayalam film industry, had triggered a wave of testimonies and complaints, many of them deeply disturbing.
Out of 35 cases filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), 21 were already closed in the first phase, with reports submitted to the court. The police now plan to conclude the remaining 14 cases by the end of this month, effectively wrapping up all proceedings initiated from the committee’s findings.
The report, though submitted years ago, gained public attention recently, prompting several individuals to come forward with personal accounts of harassment and misconduct. However, a number of those who gave statements have since expressed their unwillingness to move forward legally, prompting police to take steps toward case closure.
Notably, 30 of the cases involved prominent figures such as actors Mukesh, Maniyanpilla Raju, Siddique, and director Ranjith, with charge sheets already filed. These particular cases will continue through the legal process.
With most complainants retracting or stepping back, authorities are finalizing formalities to bring an end to the remaining cases this month.
