Heavy Rains Lash Kerala: Orange Alert in Kasaragod & Kannur; Thrissur Declares Holiday for Schools and Colleges

Thiruvananthapuram: Northern Kerala continues to experience heavy rainfall, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an Orange Alert for Kasaragod and Kannur districts today. A Yellow Alert has also been declared in Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad. Rain warnings remain confined to these five districts.

In view of the continuous downpour over the last two days, the Thrissur district administration has announced a holiday for all educational institutions today (Monday). The order covers schools, professional colleges, CBSE, ICSE, Kendriya Vidyalayas, anganwadis, madrasas, and tuition centers.

All school-level examinations scheduled for today stand postponed. The Onam examinations, planned for tomorrow, will be rescheduled and the new dates will be announced later. However, other previously scheduled exams and interviews will be conducted as planned.

The IMD has further cautioned that isolated moderate rainfall and strong winds up to 40 km/h are likely in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Kozhikode. Light rain with similar wind speeds is also expected in isolated areas across all districts.
