Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across Kerala on Thursday and Friday due to a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal. As a precaution, yellow alerts have been issued in several districts.
Yellow alerts are in effect for Thiruvananthapuram, Wayanad, and Kannur on Thursday, and for Malappuram, Wayanad, and Kannur on Friday. According to IMD, rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours is categorized as heavy rainfall.
The depression is expected to move north-northeast and weaken within 12 hours, according to IMD assessments. Despite the weather conditions, no restrictions have been placed on fishing activities along the Kerala-Karnataka coastline.
Meanwhile, the National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has warned of rough sea conditions along the Kanyakumari coast until 11:30 PM on Friday, with wave heights expected between 1.2 to 1.3 meters due to swells. Coastal residents and fishermen have been advised to remain vigilant and take appropriate safety measures.
