Heavy Rain Damages Ganga Expressway in Unnao; Akhilesh Yadav Targets UP Government

A section of the Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district was damaged following heavy rainfall, leaving a pit nearly seven feet deep, officials said on Tuesday.

The damage was reported near the Basiratganj toll plaza at the 423.6-km mark on the Prayagraj-bound carriageway, close to a rest area. The agency responsible for maintaining the expressway has barricaded the affected section, diverted traffic and started repair work.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticised the Uttar Pradesh government over the condition of the expressway. Taking a swipe at the administration, he sarcastically described it as the country’s “first express waterway”.

Akhilesh Yadav also alleged that potholes on the expressway were being “carpeted” rather than properly repaired and accused the BJP government of turning expressways into a symbol of corruption.

Traffic has been diverted to the adjoining lane around 300 metres before the damaged stretch to ensure the safety of commuters while repair work is underway.
