Great Indian Bustard Chick Born in Gujarat After a Decade

A chick of the endangered Great Indian Bustard has been born in Gujarat’s Kutch after a gap of ten years, marking a significant conservation milestone. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced that the birth was achieved through a “jumpstart approach,” a specialised conservation method.

The initiative was carried out in coordination with the Ministry, forest departments of Rajasthan and Gujarat, and the Wildlife Institute of India. Officials said this is the first successful inter-state implementation of the jumpstart method for the species in the country. The development is seen as a positive step in efforts to revive the critically endangered bird population.
