Gold Prices Shine Brighter, Cross ₹1.17 Lakh; Single-Day Surge of Nearly ₹4,000

Kochi: Gold prices in Kerala continue their record-breaking rally, surging sharply today and crossing the ₹1.17 lakh mark per sovereign for the first time. With an increase of ₹3,960 in a single day, the price of one sovereign (8 grams) has risen to ₹1,17,120.

On a per-gram basis, gold gained ₹495, taking the price of one gram to ₹14,640. The sharp rise comes just a day after prices had dipped by ₹1,680 per sovereign, clearly indicating that the decline was only temporary.

Over the past three weeks alone, gold prices have climbed by more than ₹17,000 per sovereign, underlining the strong upward momentum in the market. Gold first crossed the ₹1 lakh mark on December 23, marking a historic milestone.

International market trends continue to have a significant impact on gold prices in Kerala. Ongoing global uncertainty is being reflected in the bullion market, driving investors towards gold as a safe-haven asset.

Market volatility has intensified following an announcement by former US President Donald Trump, who said higher tariffs would be imposed on products from European countries opposing the US stance on Greenland’s control. Amid such geopolitical tensions, increased demand for gold as a secure investment has kept prices elevated.
