The G7 nations have delivered a strong and unified message backing Israel’s right to self-defense while calling out Iran as a destabilizing force in the Middle East. In a joint declaration from the summit in Kananaskis, Canada, G7 leaders reaffirmed their full support for Israel’s security and warned that Iran must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.
“Iran continues to be a central source of regional instability and terrorism,” the G7 statement said, underscoring the bloc’s resolve to stand by Israel and maintain global energy security in coordination with partner nations.
The summit, attended by leaders from the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States, concludes today after three days dominated by discussions on the escalating Middle East crisis.
In a dramatic turn, U.S. President Donald Trump cut short his participation in the summit, returning to Washington amid rising tensions. He issued a stark warning to civilians in Iran: “People must evacuate Tehran as soon as possible,” adding that Iran had failed to uphold a prior agreement. “They were expected to sign it, and they didn’t,” he stated.
The G7’s show of solidarity comes amid Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that Israel’s recent military actions have dealt a major blow to Iran’s nuclear program. The summit is being chaired by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
