In a heartfelt and solemn tribute, India gathered to pay its last respects to CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury. His body was placed at Delhi’s AKG Bhavan for public homage, where leaders from various political parties, social organizations, and a large number of party workers arrived to honor the beloved leader. The air was filled with emotion as people queued to catch a final glimpse of Yechury, reflecting on his decades of contribution to Indian politics.
Public viewing will continue until 3 PM, followed by a procession to 14 Ashoka Road, the former headquarters of CPI(M). Fulfilling Yechury’s personal wishes, his body will then be handed over to AIIMS for medical research, marking his final act of service.
Yesterday, Yechury’s body was taken to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), where he began his political journey as a student leader. A poignant “Red Salute” was given by comrades from the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and other organizations. Emotions ran high as slogans of solidarity filled the campus. Among those who paid tribute were Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other prominent leaders of the CPI(M), adding gravitas to this final farewell.
