Thrissur, Aug 18 (IVC) A case has been charged against Kadayanmar Asokan hailing from Engandiyoor near here, for charges of extortion of money and sexual harassment of a young woman .
The accused Asokan was the former Engandiyoor Grama Panchayat President, Thrissur District SFI President and Engadiyoor Local Area Committee Member.
According to the complaint of the victim, she was provided employment in the accused’s Gulf Nidhi Limited. The modus operandi of Asokan was to find out poor young women who needed job and financial assistance and then go to their homes and offer employment and then start the wickedness.
It was mandatory for the women employees of the Nidhi to attend the weekly meeting of the company. It was stated in the complaint that Asokan tried to harass sexually the complainant who attended the meeting, police said. Since this unsavory incident, the victim stopped to attend the meetings convened by the company which created umbrage at woman.
After providing employment in the Nidhi Company, Asokan took possession of the victim’s gold ornaments and the property owned by the woman’s father was pledged and took Rs 11 lakh from the victim’s father.
When the woman realized that Asokan is a fraudster and she fell into the trap of Asokn, she insisted on refund of Rs 11 lakh and her gold ornaments. Enraged by her demand, Asokan squeezed the neck of the woman and threatened her to kill.
Asokan is the owner of several other such companies with view to extorting money from poor women, police said. Meanwhile Asokan was making his best efforts, with the support of CPI(M) to hush up the matter and escape from the clutches of law without wounds.
