New Delhi: In a major clean-up drive, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has deregistered 474 political parties for failing to contest elections in the last six years. The action targets registered but unrecognized parties that violated basic compliance rules.
This comes just weeks after the EC delisted 334 parties on August 9, taking the total number of removals in the past two months to 808. After the revision, the country’s official list of political parties now stands at 2,046.
From Kerala, 11 parties survived the update, including the Akhila Kerala Trinamool Party, All India Federal Block, Bharatiya Development Party, Janadhipathya Samrakshana Samithi, Kerala Congress (Zacharia Congress), Kerala Congress Secular, Kerala Kamaraj Congress, Kerala Vikas Congress, National Democratic Party, Secular National Dravida Party, and Secular Action Party.
