Cyclonic System Brewing Over Arabian Sea: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Nine Kerala Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is bracing for another spell of heavy rain as a cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea intensifies. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for nine districts — Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.

According to the IMD, isolated heavy rainfall is expected, with certain areas likely to record 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain within 24 hours. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds up to 40 km/h may also occur in parts of the state.

The weather office has warned that the cyclonic system hovering over the Lakshadweep region and the adjoining Arabian Sea could strengthen into a low-pressure area by today, potentially enhancing rainfall intensity along the Kerala and Karnataka coasts.

Fishermen have been advised to exercise caution, as rough sea conditions are likely to prevail over coastal waters.
