Cyclone Near Kerala Triggers Yellow Alert in Three Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a yellow alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, and Ernakulam as a new cyclonic circulation forms near southern Kerala, bringing with it the threat of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

According to the IMD, isolated heavy rainfall — between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours — is likely in these districts. Officials have urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid exposure during lightning and thunderstorm activity, which could intensify by afternoon and night.

The northeast monsoon has turned active across the state, and weather experts warn that moderate to heavy downpours could continue over central and southern Kerala in the coming days.
