Cyclone Fengal Live Updates: Heavy Rains Lash Chennai, Red Alert Issued Across Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Cyclone Fengal, intensifying over the southwest Bay of Bengal, has brought heavy rains to Chennai and surrounding areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Tamil Nadu as the cyclone is expected to make landfall near Puducherry today.

Districts including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Kallakurichi, and Cuddalore are experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall. Puducherry is also witnessing the impact of the cyclone. The IMD has forecast maximum wind speeds of up to 90 km/h during the landfall.

Precautionary measures have been intensified across the region. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are on standby, and people in low-lying and vulnerable areas have been advised to evacuate to safer locations. Fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea.

Schools and colleges in affected districts remain closed. Authorities have urged the public to stay indoors and follow safety guidelines until the cyclone passes. Further updates are awaited as the storm progresses.
