The cyclonic storm Cyclone Ditwah is closing in on India’s southeast coast, triggering high alerts across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh. The system, hovering over the southwest Bay of Bengal, is expected to intensify further as it moves towards the coastline.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of three days of heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong gusty winds, over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and the Rayalaseema region starting Saturday. Several districts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have also been placed under an orange alert.
Coastal areas of Chennai, Puducherry, and the northern Tamil Nadu belt may experience intense showers, rough seas, and wind speeds likely to disrupt daily life. Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors, avoid coastal zones, and remain alert for emergency updates.
Fishermen have been strictly warned not to venture into the sea, as high waves and dangerous sea conditions are expected during the cyclonic activity.
Disaster management teams in all three states have been placed on standby as the cyclone advances, ensuring rapid response to any potential flooding or damage.
